Summary:In the transitioning era towards environmentally friendly resources, sustainable natural resources policies must be acquired, particularly in the mineral resource-rich areas. The present research purposes are to examine the impact of various resources, governance, technological, and energy-related factors on the economic prosperity of the Russian economy. Covering the period from 1990 to 2022, this research observed the variables are in a mixed order of integration. This leads the present research to employ the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bound test. The experimental outcomes asserted that only geopolitical risk is a significant factor of economic prosperity in the short run. However, digitalization and green energy adversely influence economic expansion in the short run. The research validates the resource blessings hypothesis in the long run, while the significant adverse impact of green energy and government effectiveness is noted. The long-run results are also tested for robustness via least squares with breaks and quantile regression. This study recommends effective mineral policies, strengthening of institutions, investment in research and development and technologies, and suitable actions to convert the adversative influence of green energy into a positive one. •Factors influencing Russian economic prosperity are investigated.•Parametric and non-parametric robustness tools are used on data from 1990 to 2022.•The resource blessings hypothesis is verified in the context of mineral resources.•Renewable electricity and digitalization are the key hurdles for economic growth.•Geopolitical risk and government efficiency are substantial for sustainability.
