Summary:From April 1972 to September 1977, 56 cases of esophageal varices, including 39 cases of cirrhosis of liver and 17 cases without cirrhosis of liver, had been experienced in our department with employment of the technique of transabdominal mucosal transection of esophagus. Before operation, various examinations including R15ICG were routinely undertaken. Following operation, follow-ups of R15ICG were done one, three, six months, and one to four years. The relationship between R15ICG and the prognosis was discussed. In summary, R15ICG was well correlated with pre-operative serum concentration of albumin, WHVP, and the presence of ascites. Furthermore, either remained constantly or gradually elevated of R15ICG could be observed after long term follow-up. 48 survivals in 56 cases of operation performed were reviewed with a survival rate of 85.7% and there was a reversed proportionality between R15ICG and the survival rate. Accordingly, R15ICG may be a good guide for pre-operative evaluation of patient.
