Two Cases of Synovial Osteochondromatosis of Hip Joint

Synovial osteochondoromatosis (SOC) rarely occurs in the hip joint, and it is difficult to diagnose cases that show no ossification on X-rays. We experienced 2 cases of SOC of the hip joint. Summary:Synovial osteochondoromatosis (SOC) rarely occurs in the hip joint, and it is difficult to diagnose cases that show no ossification on X-rays. We experienced 2 cases of SOC of the hip joint. Case 1 was a 37-year old man and Case 2 was a 68-year old woman. Both complained of right coxalgia and limitation of hip motion. Their X-rays showed widening of the joint space and bone atrophy. However, arthrogram showed multiple loose bodies and Gd-enhanced MRI with fat suppression showed enhanced synovium and no enhanced nodular lesion. These cases were there fore diagnosed as SOC, extirpation of the loose bodies and synovectomy. Their symptoms subsided after operations. MRI and arthrogram are considered useful for the diagnosis of SOC without ossification.
