Summary:The influence of temperature on the fracture behavior of wood was analyzed. Experiments were performed on small notched specimens of a softwood, spruce and a diffuse porous hardwood, beech. Fracture surface of spruce seemed to be rough and more cell wall fragments torned out of the cell. Results indicated that more energy was dissipated during cracking for lower temperatures.
