Low-temperature sintering of aluminum nitride with YF3-CaF2 binary additive

A binary additive system, YF3-CaF2, was adopted in the low-temperature sintering of AlN ceramics. After sintering at 1650 C for 6 h, thermal conductivity up to 187 W/m.K was achieved. The density of every specimen was higher than 3.26 g/cm3, the theoretical density of AlN. It can be concluded that t...

Summary:A binary additive system, YF3-CaF2, was adopted in the low-temperature sintering of AlN ceramics. After sintering at 1650 C for 6 h, thermal conductivity up to 187 W/m.K was achieved. The density of every specimen was higher than 3.26 g/cm3, the theoretical density of AlN. It can be concluded that the YF3-CaF2 binary additive is more effective in enhancing densification and thus in improving thermal conductivity than CaF2 alone. 9 refs.
