Reaction of Substituted Group 14 Element Potassium Salts with 1-(Chloromethyl)silatrane: Substitution or Rearrangement?

Reactions of 1-(chloromethyl)silatrane with organic group 14 element anions [(Me 3 Si) 3 E] ‒ (E = Si, Ge) generated in situ afforded the corresponding substitution products (Me 3 Si) 3 ECH 2 Si(OCH 2 CH 2 ) 3 N, whereas no products of ring-expansion rearrangement were detected. The structure of the...

Summary:Reactions of 1-(chloromethyl)silatrane with organic group 14 element anions [(Me 3 Si) 3 E] ‒ (E = Si, Ge) generated in situ afforded the corresponding substitution products (Me 3 Si) 3 ECH 2 Si(OCH 2 CH 2 ) 3 N, whereas no products of ring-expansion rearrangement were detected. The structure of the isolated compounds was determined by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy.
