Summary:In this communication, we have studied the preparation, optical absorption, and visible upconversion characteristics of this ion on excitation with green (532nm) and red (797nm) laser excitation sources in lead tellurite glass samples. Radiative parameters of various transitions/levels were calculated by applying Judd–Ofelt (J–O) theory. Upconversion measurement shows the generation of UV and blue upconversion emissions at 361, 386, 415 and 451nm wavelengths using 532nm excitation. In the same way by using 797nm excitation intense upconversion emissions extended from blue to red regions in Nd3+ doped lead tellurite glass. ► We have studied the preparation and upconversion characteristics in Nd3+ lead tellurite glass. ► Radiative parameters of various transitions were calculated using Judd–Ofelt (J–O) theory. ► Concentration dependent upconversion studies of Nd3+ lead tellurite glass were done.
