Statistical analysis of emission and absorption lines of quasars. II. An analysis of 6761 quasars

Summary:We made a further analysis of 6761 quasars in the Hewitt-Burbidge 1993 catalogue. The emission redshift range is between 0.0 and 4.9. The results show that, on average, association between absorbing matter and quasar is found in 43% of the cases, but the percentage varies wildly in different emission redshift intervals, from 100% in the intervals 0.2–0.3 and 3.6–3.7 to 0% in the interval 0.7–0.8. The interval at z em = 2.0 is outstanding: it is where the numbers of quasars with emission redshifts, with absorption redshifts, with 3 or more absorption lines, with 6 or more absorption lines, all peak.
