Solid-state structure of N-dodecyl- N, N-dimethylhydrazinium bromide

The solid state structure of single-chain N-dodecyl- N, N-dimethylhydrazinium bromide ( 1) was determined. Compound 1 crystallized in the centrosymmetric triclinic space group P 1 ̄ ( Z=2) in a unit cell of dimensions a=5.8182 (5) Å, b=8.1663 (6) Å, c=19.418 (2) Å, α=79.028 (7)°, β=87.271 (7)°, γ=71...

Summary:The solid state structure of single-chain N-dodecyl- N, N-dimethylhydrazinium bromide ( 1) was determined. Compound 1 crystallized in the centrosymmetric triclinic space group P 1 ̄ ( Z=2) in a unit cell of dimensions a=5.8182 (5) Å, b=8.1663 (6) Å, c=19.418 (2) Å, α=79.028 (7)°, β=87.271 (7)°, γ=71.895 (5)° and V=860.83 (13) Å 3. The crystal packing is characterized by an interdigitated bilayer structure featuring London forces among the alkyl chains and electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding within the polar head group region. The alkyl chains pack in the T|| mode and the molecular and chain cross sections are 47.51 Å 2 ( S) and 19.56 Å 2 (Σ), respectively.
