Summary:The article presents the results of studies of various types of soils in arid territories. Due to the increased intensity of anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems in many regions, large-scale soil salinization is singled out as one of the factors in the development of soil degradation processes. The depth of occurrence, mineralization and chemical composition of groundwater are subject to seasonal, annual and long-term changes, which can be described by certain patterns of hydro regime. The development of secondary salinization in the region can be attributed to the existing problems that have arisen as a result of the widespread development of irrigation. The solution of this issue requires the development of new approaches to the development of irrigation in the Southern Aral Sea region.
