Summary:The purpose of a communication system can be related to the modification of the receiver's behaviour. Since such modification implies correct understanding of the meaning of the transmitted information, methods of evaluation which fail to relate a system's performance to the received meaning may present a distorted impression of that system's capability. A method of evaluation using judges trained to assess the received meaning in a transmitted message is described and its capability to distinguish performance of a simulated public address system under three S N ratio conditions is determined.
