Summary:This study evaluates legibility of graphical information boards on the expressway, which is typical road map with colorful traffic information, focusing on the graphical characteristics of a road network in the graphical information board. The factors to affect the legibility were extracted in the viewpoint of “map information” and “easiness of route search” by CG experiments using a personal computer. The result shows that it is important that the clarification of characteristic elements in the network and that of closed loop which forms alternative routes, respectively. We confirmed that these factors make effect on the easiness of route choice under the real condition with dynamictraffic information by an experiment using a driving simulator.
