Summary: | Described is an approach to teaching the reading, discussion, & writing of poetry to grades K-12. The first component is the source materials (themes & subjects that inspire), & the second component is the communication of poetic writing techniques. For numerous examples of children's poetry, the sources & techniques that make each unique are analyzed. Broad themes recur across all cultural backgrounds. Poetry reading & writing can push children ahead in language development & abstract thinking. By encouraging children to write poems, most will take a deeper pleasure in literature & enrich their own lives. 18 References. J. Mayberry |
