Summary: | A 2-furanyl oxy derivative of a novolac epoxy resin (FNE) was prepared using furfuryl alcohol (from agricultural waste) and characterised. The Diels-Alder polymerisation of FNE with various bismaleimides was carried out in solution as well as in bulk. The resultant novolac epoxy resin based polyimides were characterised by elemental analyses, IR spectral studies, and thermogravimetry. The 'in-situ' glass reinforced composites of FNE-bismaleimides were prepared and characterised by chemical resistance and mechanical properties. |
