Summary: | In the current research, podometry vision system (PVS) and classification method are developed as alternative ionizing radiation free system for the classification of different foot malformations. PVS is composed of one scanning unit and one load distribution unit, which measure anthropometric angles and the load distribution. The obtained measurements enable the application of the proposed method, which classifies the foot type and rearfoot in accordance with the anthropometric measurements and load distribution. The method provides a detailed classification of the cavus foot as posterior, mixed and anterior. Anterior can be divided as direct and intern depending on the symmetry of the 1st metatarsal and 5th metatarsal. The PVS and method can be used as a tool to analyze the evolution of the foot in response to the treatments indicated by the medical professional. On the other hand, the obtained results coincide with the classification provided by a medical professional. Moreover, the measurements provide additional information on the rearfoot deviation and load distribution.
•Podometry vision system measures anthropometric angles and load distribution.•Foot types classification based on anthropometric and load measurements.•System free of ionizing-radiation to characterize the foot types.•The system provides a detailed classification of the cavus foot.•The system can be used as a tool for comparison of functional and clinical tests. |
