Summary:Titanium-containing MCM-41 materials were synthesised using triammonium pentafluoroperoxotitanate (NH4)3[Ti(O2)F5] as the titanium source, using several templates, varying in chain length and additional auxiliary organic agents in order to vary the mean pore size. The materials obtained were characterised with XRD, UV/Vis, nitrogen adsorption and desorption, DRIFT, ICP–AES and thermogravimetric analysis. In all materials the titanium was present as tetrahedrally coordinated Ti(IV). The pore size was dependent on the surfactant chain length. The addition of an auxiliary organic compound had only minor influence on the pore size. The use of the BJH equation for the determination of the pore size distribution can result in pore sizes that are too small.
