Summary:This issue of physica status solidi (b) contains the proceedings of the workshop NANO'2001, focussing on recent experimental and theoretical investigations in the study of properties, structures and models as well as the application of nanostructures for nanoelectronics. Special attention was given to quantum wells, dots, wires, superlattices, barriers, nanoclusters and devices. The meeting was the second in a series of scientific events promoted by the Network IX.E on “Study, Fabrication and Characterization of Nanostructures for Micro and Optoelectronics” as part of the Sub‐Program IX on “Microelectronics” of the Ibero–American Program of Science and Technology for the Development (CYTED). This program was created by an agreement of 19 Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal and is designed to promote scientific cooperation between researchers and institutions from South and Central America with scientists from European countries.
