Summary: | Linear amplitude sweep (LAS) test is often used for fatigue characterization of asphalt binders. In this study, we propose a new technique based on the integration of Miner’s linear damage rule and LAS test data to determine the fatigue life of the asphalt binders. We tested eight asphalt binders with varying rheological properties for the proposed method. The results are compared with pseudotrain energy (PSE) based analysis, derived from the viscoelastic continuum damage (VECD) principle. We found that the proposed method gives comparable results with the PSE-based approach. The relationship between the number of cycles to failure

obtained from the proposed approach is independent of any model fitting step, unlike the PSE-based approach. With the proposed method, the measured data can be directly used to estimate the fatigue life using a few simple steps, thus saving the time and effort required in the VECD-based analysis framework. |
