Summary:The main objective of this article was to investigate the influence of asphalt mixture components on the safety of urban un-signalized intersections. To this end, 10 un-signalized intersections were selected in different parts of Tehran. Then, pavement core samples were taken for the extraction test, and traffic accident statistics in wet condition were collected. The friction coefficient of the pavement was measured at each intersection using a tractive friction device based on wet condition. According to the data analysis, three regression models were developed. The models demonstrated a decreasing effect of fractured particles and coarse aggregates and increasing effect of binder content on accidents rate. Therefore, the model developed based on asphalt mixture components can better predict pavement friction performance and chose optimized mix design to improve safety at un-signalized intersections.
