Summary:We propose here a new genus to accommodate Tragia rubiginosa , previously considered endemic to Peru, based on morphological characters, including pollen. A multivariate analysis was performed to assess the dissimilarity of T. rubiginosa in relation to Tragia and the other genera of Tragiinae. In this paper, we present a detailed morphological description, a full pollen description of the new genus, its geographic and ecological distribution, an identification key for all genera of Tragiinae, and a comparative table of the sections of Tragia and the American genera of Tragiinae.
