Summary: | A technique based on adsorption chromatography using a benzene-n-pentane solvent gradient has been developed for the quantitative fractionation of the neutral oil fraction derived from coal hydrogenation products boiling above 250°C. By this method the neutral oil is fractionated into saturates, monoaromatics, two classes of hydroaromatics, diaromatics, polyaromatics and polar constituents. UV monitoring of the effluents, while the separation is in progress, has been used to ensure proper choice of the solvent for attaining optimum separation. The alumina column retains its activity and gives reproducible results even after twenty experiments. |
