Summary:Despite the popularity of the Weighted Least Squares (WLS) method, this brief shows that the traditional WLS method may not meet some desired requirements of operators/users. To this end, this brief presents a user-centered bounded (UCB) state estimation (SE) model. A theoretical foundation is provided for the proposed UCB SE model/formulation. A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the existence of a SE solution to the UCB SE problem. Furthermore, a theory-based numerical method is developed to solve the UCB SE problem. Numerical evaluations are conducted on the state estimation of the IEEE 9-bus system and the IEEE 118-bus system under various conditions to highlight some distinguished features of the proposed UCB SE formulation and the theory-based numerical method.
