Summary: | An alternative fixation method for preparing white adipose tissue for transmission electron microscopy is described. The procedure uses a primary fixation mixture of glutaraldehyde and acrolein. In our hands, this protocol produces superior ultrastructural morphology and fewer artifacts than traditional immersion fixation. This technique can be used in cases where perfusion fixation is neither feasible nor possible. (The J Histotechnol 27:43, 2004)
