Summary: | Capacitor charging power supply (CCPS) based on homopolar inductor alternator (HIA) has outstanding potential in the vehicle area of electromagnetic launch (EML) system and laser weapon. Although HIA has the advantage of high energy storage density and high repetition pulsed output ability, it cannot meet the demand for higher power density because it only has unipolar magnetic field at any location. to further enhance the charging performance, a novel machine is proposed, in which a short-circuit compensated winding (SCW) is configured with HIA (SCWHIA). First, the scheme and the operating principle of SCWHIA are analyzed. Then, the mathematical model of SCWHIA is developed. After that, the differences between SCW and the damping winding in the conventional synchronous machine are compared to show the compensation principle of SCW. Finally, simulations are carried out. The results show that SCW can improve the charging performance of HIA under appropriate conditions. |
