The absorption line profiles in Q1101-264

A series of 0.25-A resolution observations has been made of three regions of the spectrum of the bright quasar Q1101-264. Summary:A series of 0.25-A resolution observations has been made of three regions of the spectrum of the bright quasar Q1101-264. It is noted that an absorption redshift system at z(abs) of 1.8387, previously reported to be single, contains at least five components with a total velocity spread of 160 km/sec. In addition, a new Mg II complex is present at z(abs) of 0.3564 and 0.3591, with pairs of components separated by 24 and 40 km/sec, respectively. Implications of these results are discussed.
