Summary:Experiments on Fourier representation of time series are performed to explore the properties of discrete Fourier transform in connection with digital synthesis of non-Gaussian spikes in turbulence. It is shown through the simulation experiments that localized non-Gaussian spiky features within a turbulence time series are strongly dependent on the organization of the phase part of the Fourier transform. This study shows how the phase signal can be selected to generate such spikiness while preserving the specified spectral density function.
