Summary: | The interaction of FKhS-7 borosilicate glass with fusion cast refractories having a high corrosion resistance to glass melts was studied. Experimental data indicated that the corrosion resistance of Bacor-33 and BKCh-33 refractories with similar properties is identical. However, other data indicate that the corrosion rate of BKCh-33 refractory in a bath furnace used for glass founding is anomalously high. Also, the presence of quartz inclusions in the glass indicate incomplete founding. These results are explained by the presence of low-melting components (boric acid and sodium salts) in the charge as well as by the conditions of charge melting. This hypothesis was checked by performing corrosion tests on a BKCh-33 refractory in a borax melt. The high corrosiveness of the melt on this and other refractories is shown. The furnace life may be prolonged and the glass quality improved by changing the charge composition. It is expedient to use quartz sand subjected to thermal grinding or autoclave treatment. 4 refs. |
