Summary:Improvements in the accuracy of power-frequency electric and magnetic field measurements require adequately calibrated instruments. The systems for the generation of reference electric and magnetic fields set up at the Istituto Elettrotecnico Nazionale 'Galileo Ferraris' (IEN) are described. A description of the calibration procedures is given, together with a detailed uncertainty budget. The resulting uncertainty of the generated fields at the 1 sigma level is within 1.3*10/sup -3/ for the electric field up to 60 kV/m and within 6*10/sup -3/ for the magnetic field up to 10 mT.< >
