Summary:The genetic algorithm using an advanced strategy is applied to the particle pairing process of the 3-D particle tracking velocimetry. More precisely, the algorithm is first applied to the epipolar line proximity analysis for establishing correspondence of particles pairs between two coinstantaneous stereoscopic particles images, in order to compute the 3-D coordinates of every individual particle. Then, the same principle of algorithm is applied for establishing correspondence of 3-D particles between two consecutive time steps. From the test results using synthetic particle images for stereoscopic PIV, the new strategy is found to work better than conventional particle pairing methods of 3-D particle tracking velocimetry.
