SYNTHETICALLY USEFUL TRANSFORMATIONS OF delta-SULTONES AND THIANE-1,1-DIOXIDES OBTAINED BY C-H INSERTION

delta-Sultones and thiane-1,1-dioxides that carry a carbethoxy group at alpha-position, easily accessible by C-H insertion, are potentially useful synthetic intermediates. Their stereoselective alkylation, rearrangement and conversion to gamma-lactones have been demonstrated.
