A CASE OF PANCREATICODUODENAL ARTERY ANEURYSM IN EARLY ACUTE PANCREATITIS

A 67-year-old man admitted the same day for acute pancreatitis, was found in abdominal computed tomography to have a rapidly growing aneurysm in the pancreatic head. The aneurysm grew from 1.5 cm in diameter on hospital day 11 to 2.3 cm on day 28. Angiography showed the aneurysm located in the anter...

Summary:A 67-year-old man admitted the same day for acute pancreatitis, was found in abdominal computed tomography to have a rapidly growing aneurysm in the pancreatic head. The aneurysm grew from 1.5 cm in diameter on hospital day 11 to 2.3 cm on day 28. Angiography showed the aneurysm located in the anteroinferior pancreaticoduodenal artery with occlusion of the celiac artery. Failed transcatheter arterial embolization was followed by surgical resection of the aneurysm. Pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysm is rare, and in our case may have developed as a complication of acute pancreatitis. Such aneurysms should thus be considered as a possible complication in acute pancreatitis.
