Summary:Commonly prescribed antidepressants are associated with sexual adverse effects predominantly reported as erectile dysfunction by men. The clinical dilemma of choosing the right antidepressant while not compromising the sexual functioning is an area of recent research. Few antidepressants, namely dapoxetine, bupropion, trazodone, and mirtazapine, have been reported to have minimal sexual adverse effects. Vortioxetine is a relatively newer antidepressant with clinical profile having minimal sexual and cognitive adverse effects. However, improvement in sexual dysfunction after treatment with vortioxetine has not been reported so far. We highlight the unique benefit of vortioxetine in improving sexual dysfunction in a case of major depressive disorder.
