Summary:The author considers the problems and challenges of aging for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) elders. Ageism, loneliness, and health status are explored as major themes of aging. Lone liness and health status, in particular, are themes that often intersect differently for LGBT older persons. AIDS has left many LGBT elders with fewer friends and support networks. Among the leading health issues are depression, alcoholism, and substance abuse.
