Summary: | International maritime organization (IMO) adopted "International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation, 1990". It was expanded to the Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) in 2000. In Japan, various chemical substances are transported by ship, whose quantity marks more than million tons per year. The chemical tanker, "Ievoli Sun", sank off the coast of France and become the international issue, she was carrying 3998 tones of styrene, which is colorless and transparent, so is difficult to be detected by ordinary method. The object of our research is to develop detection techniques for such liquid hazardous chemical substances. In this report, at first, we show spectral characteristics of Benzene and Styrene monomer, then present the test result observed as an image obtained by the third harmonics of pulsed Nd:YAG laser and an image intensifier with narrow-band-pass filters. |
