Summary:— The data about the effects of fish kairomones (interspecific chemical signals) on aquatic animals, crustaceans, mollusks, larvae and imagoes of insects, amphibians and other organisms, as well as on some terrestrial animals has been systematisized. A variety of releaser (behavioral) and primer (phenotypical) responces of animals to fish odors and relationships controlled by these signals are considered. The effect of biotic and abiotic factors and living conditions (biotopic similarity of interacting species, their range, mode of life, type of nutrition and feeding habits, age and life stage, infestation with parasites, feeding motivation, daily and seasonal dynamics, etc.) on the release of kairomones by donor fish and the susceptibility of recipient animals to them is evaluated. The data on the chemical nature of fish cairomones are summarized. The role of fish kairomones in the regulation of interactions between organisms in aquatic communities is discussed.
