Summary: | We investigated the daily living situation, fall situation, physical balance ability, gait ability and bone density of 30 patients admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Twenty-eight patients spent daily activities in the hospital and the others did so in their room. Four out of 30 (13.3%) had experienced falls. The patient's physical balance ability was at the same level as that of frail elderly people who had experienced falls. Maximum walking speed and bone density were relatively lower than those of people of similar ages. In the field of psychiatry the aging of patients in progressing, and the improvement of physical exercise, the enlargement the range of daily living activities, and affirmative intervention of physical therapists is required. |
