Summary: | The subject of rhetoric analysis involves strongly conventionalized acts of linguistic courtesy, such as public apologies. The research material consists of written apologies formulated on the Internet. The analysis of the circumstances, goals and ways of verbalizing public apologies shows that they are more often a persuasive trick, a strategic act aimed at obtaining specific benefits or eliminating negative effects impending over the subject as a result of doing something that has been assessed negatively or violated someone's rights, rather than an act of genuine repentance. |
