The research material consists of written apologies formulated on the Internet. The analysis of the circumstances, goals and ways of verbalizing public apologies shows that they are more often a persuasive trick, a strategic act aimed at obtaining specific benefits or eliminating negative effects impending over the subject as a result of doing something that has been assessed negatively or violated someone's rights, rather than an act of genuine repentance.
