Summary:The characterization of neurological pathways and processes is necessary both to better understand diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, and to investigate the functions of various neuroactive agents. With this in mind, we report here results for the detection of dopamine at polycarbazole electrodes. After determination of the appropriate conditions for electropolym-erization of robust films of polycarbazole and detection of dopamine at polycarbazole, films were produced on a rotating disk electrode and used for the detection of dopamine detection at pH 7.4, both alone and in the presence of varying concentrations of ascorbic acid. Both interelectrode and interday testing as well as interference studies for dopamine in the presence of ascorbic acid suggest that these electrodes will provide a sensitive and selective choice for in vivo detection of dopamine.
