Summary: | Cashew is the second most important rain fed fruit crop of Konkan. The area under cashew is increasing rapidly. However, the sole cashew yield, 1120 kg nut/ha, costs Rs. 89600/ha. If it is integrated with back yard poultry (Giriraja Breed), farmers can yield an additional income of Rs. 1,75,000. Not only the income rises but also the poultry manure gets added for the growth and development of the cashew plantation and the risk of accidental fire hazard is also taken care of. With this view, the present investigation was carried out at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lanja, and District Ratnagiri (M.S.) during 2009-10. In this investigation it is observed that the income from the cashew nut of about Rs. 89600/ha was increased with Rs. 1,75,000 as an additional income from back yard poultry. |
