Summary:In this article we deal with field data modelling. The data have been recorded during the operation of a drinking water distribution system. Numerous records about water distribution network failures are available. They contain failures during single months in the period of approximately 15 years. Our effort is to observe the failure rate of a water pipeline distribution mains development. To do so, two approaches are used. One is based on modelling the system behaviour when applying the Markov chain with a discrete parameter, and the other one applies a state space model. The article contains not only the description and the design of the behaviour model of water mains, but also the prediction of the water mains behaviour and state in the following period.
