Summary:One of the problems associated with the large-scale use of numerically-controlled machine tools in the high-variety batch environment typified by the aerospace industry is the provisioning and control of pre-assembled cutting tools. The efficient utilisation of these expensive items demands effective cataloguing and recording of their usage. Conventional paper-based systems for these purposes are often inefficient and expensive to operate. A computer-based system is presented which makes use both of classification codes and of interactive data manipulation.
