Summary:The laminar flow field in a near-vertical, water-filled closed tube thermosyphon is explored numerically in the impeded regime. Using a square-section tube having an aspect ratio of 5:1, two separate sub-studies were undertaken. These consisted of varying the tube inclination and altering the longitudinal temperatures profile imposed on the long walls. The results presented, mainly in terms of longitudinal velocity profiles, indicate that these variations are capable of producing substantial changes in the flow field.
