Summary: | There have been great improvements in the visual rehabilitation of patients who have uveitis and who develop cataract. Although cataract is a common complication for these patients, the absolute numbers of affected patients is small. This has led to many reports and case series in which relatively small numbers of patients are included with disease of varying types and severity. The result is that there is still uncertainty about many important aspects of patient management and outcome following surgery. These issues may best be addressed by randomized studies collecting data from multiple centers. Developing these studies will be the next challenge facing clinicians who examine patients with these difficult problems. |
