Summary: | The committee for the reduction in the weight of aluminium alloy ship structures (SOD) carried out a range of investigative tests with procured 6082 alloy FSW panels, the only 6000 series aluminium alloy approved by IACS for vessel hull structures, with the aim of acquiring technical data concerning lighter weight hull structures and a reduction in the number of fabrication operations. In this report, the results of the investigation of the weldability of 6082 alloy, undertaken as a part of the activities of the aforementioned committee, are reported. |
