Summary:Additive compositions are added to motor oils from Baku petroleums to improve their service properties. Highly alkaline alkylphenol additive IKhP-101 is one of the main components of these compositions. Having good antioxidation and anticorrosion properties, it nevertheless has inadequate detergency-dispersancy and thermal-viscosity properties. To improve these properties, and additional component, polyisobutylene, was added to the additive in the stage of condensation of alkylphenol with formaldehyde in an acid medium. The process was carried out at 96-98 degree C until the refractive-index value n sub(D) super(20) = 1.5140-1.5150 was obtained. To prevent intensive condensation, the reaction product was diluted with oil I-12A taken in 40 wt.%.
