Summary:In this study, amultiresidue method for pesticides was established. And the distribution and the seasonal variation of pesticides in water of Yodo river were discussed. The multiresidue analysis of about 50 pesticides including organophosphorus, carbamate, triazine and organochlorine pesticides was carried out, using various GC detectors. Recoveries of the pesticides analyzed were over 70%. About 30 pesticides were detected in water samples from the river. Especially, 29 pesticides had high frequency of detecti on (over 80%) . Their concentration levels were varied according to the above chemical groups of pesticides and did not reflected the consumption in Yodo River basin. Distribution and seasonal variation patterns of pesticides in Yodo River basin were divided in two groups roughly. One was mainly detected in the upstream dominated the agricul tural areas, the other had high concentration in the downstream and its tributaries flowed through the residential and urban areas. The patterns depended mainly on the usage of the pesticides and their physicochemical and degradative propeties.
