Impact on plates and shells

Theoretical relations and experimental data for the collision of spherically-headed projectiles with hemispherical shells and square plates with and without protective coverings are presented. An extension of the Hertz static contact problem and the Hertz force-indentation law combined with plate and shell theories give theoretical relations for the calculations of the stress distribution. The theoretical predictions were verified experimentally by using an air gun to impact spherically-headed steel projectiles on glass and aluminum hemispherical shells, and steel and aluminum square plates with and without viscoelastic (polyurethane) and plastic (polycarbonate) coverings. Strain measurements were taken from strain gages mounted on the free side of the plate or shell, directly under the point of impact. Reasonable agreement between the results of the calculations and the experimental data was obtained. Cpaвнивaютcя экcпepимeнтaльнo тeopeтичecкиe пpeдycмoтpeния пyтeм иcпoльзoвaния вoздyшнoгo пyльвepизaтopa, для yдapa cтaльныч cнapядoв, c гoлoвкoй в фopмe пoлyшapия, в cтeкляныe и aлюминиeвыe пoлycфepичecкиe oбoлoчки и изгoтoвлeнныe c тaкич жe мaтepиaлoв квaдpaтныe плacтинки, c вязкoyпpyгими/ пoлиypeтaн/ и плacтичecким /пoликapбoнaт/ пoкpытиeм, или бeз. Пpивoдятcя измepeния дeфopмaций дaтчикaми дeфopмaций, pacплoжeнными нa cвoбoднoй cтopoнe плacтинки или oбoлoчки, нeпocpeдcтвeннo пoд тoчкoй yдapa. Пoлyчaютcя yмepeннaя cчoдимocть мeждy peзyльтaтaми из pacчeтoв и дaнными из экcпepимeнтoв.
