Regulation of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity in the submandibular gland of developing rat

1. 1. In rat submandibular gland, cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase activities were present both in the supernatant and particulate fractions, and the supernatant enzymes were separated into four peaks on DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. 2. 2. Developmental patterns of phosphodiesterases for...

Summary:1. 1. In rat submandibular gland, cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase activities were present both in the supernatant and particulate fractions, and the supernatant enzymes were separated into four peaks on DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. 2. 2. Developmental patterns of phosphodiesterases for c-AMP and c-GMP were different. 3. 3. c-GMP phosphodiesterase from 5-day-old rat was suppressed with EGTA, and activated by activator protein/Ca 2+, but c-GMP phosphodiesterase from adult rat was increased with EGTA. 4. 4. EGTA or activator/Ca 2+ had no effect on c-AMP phosphodiesterase from both neonate and adult rats. 5. 5. The presence of activator protein or inhibitor substance(s) for c-GMP phosphodiesterase was suggested.
