Analysis of anisotropic laminated cylindrical shells subjected to destabilizing loads. Part I: Theory and solution procedure

Summary:The analysis of laminated cylindrical shells of general stacking, but of symmetric construction (there is no coupling between extension and bending), when acted upon by the destabilizing heads of lateral pressure, hydrostatic pressure, uniform axial compression and torsion, is presented. Sanders-type equations are employed in deriving the buckling equations. A solution procedure is developed for computer-generated numerical results. This procedure is based on the Galenkin method. Extensive parametric studies are performed and presented in Part II. Justification for the work is provided in the Introduction section of the paper.
