Summary:PU and PHEMA based membranes with different surface and bulk characteristics were prepared by changing the preparation conditions and by applying chemical and glow-discharge modification methods. Structural properties of these membranes were characterized by SEM micrographs, equilibrium water contents and air contact angles. Attachment of anchorage dependent cells, namely Baby Hamster Kidney fibroblastic cells and Madine Darby Kidney epithelial cells were investigated in stationary culture conditions. It was found that both the chemical and/or physical structures of the material surface control the cell attachment.
